OPERATION APPLESEED HAS COMMITTED $1 MILLION TO
PLANT 1 MILLION TREES FROM CENTRAL OREGON TO THE COAST.
The loss of trees through logging practices, fire, development, or other disturbances results in the long-term loss of ecological functions that provide significant contributions to human health and happiness. Forests are largely responsible for providing clean water, filtering pollutants, capturing and storing atmospheric carbon, providing habitat for an amazing diversity of life, and providing social, recreational, and spiritual values. E.O. Wilson coined the term Biophylia to describe the innate connection between people and the natural world. Forests provide that connection for many people. But everyone on the planet benefits from the function and structure of different forests around the world.
The Worthy Garden Club recognizes this connection and the importance of trees and forests in our lives, and have pledged to help plant a million trees lost through fire, climate change, or other human caused and natural disturbances.
These efforts will ensure trees remain as a valuable part of the ecosystem, and will continue to provide benefits to humans and other creatures for generations. As the adage goes, the best time to plant a tree is thirty years ago... the second best is now. We are investing time, energy, and money in the future of our planet and in the health and happiness of our grandchildren and great grandchildren. We hope you join us in this important work!
OUR PROGRESS SO FAR
Pounds of Projected CO2 Sequestered*
* USFS studies show an estimated average of 50 lbs. of Co2 sequestration per mature tree, annually.
OUR VISION IS TO TAKE CARE OF THE PLACES WE LOVE AND TO STEP UP AS BUSINESSES, AGENCIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO DO OUR PART - TOGETHER.
PLANTING TREES IS A CONCRETE WAY WE WILL SHOW THIS COMMITMENT.
Thanks to Roger Worthington's vision, and generous seed funding from Worthy Garden Club, we are bringing life to our ambitious plan to plant 1 million trees.
